When you’re starting out or growing your business, it can be difficult to figure out ‘who’ your business is supposed to be. Should you go with an ‘all business, no play’ persona? A sweet, whimsical one? Or is your brand just a little bit spicy?
The answer to this is partly guided by your industry – spicy lawyers might be fun at the Christmas party, but might not be your first choice when you’re in a jam… Once you’ve figured out the constraints of your industry, the most important thing is to be AUTHENTIC.
Here’s how:
- Tell stories. We all love a story. Stories create feelings and they build connections. In other words, they build TRUST.
- Share your brand personality. When you create a personality-driven story, you give your audience a ‘person’ to trust. You can design a personality that reflects you, your staff, and your inspirations.
- Keep it simple! Don’t tell such convoluted stories that your message gets lost in the fluff.
- Make sure your story connects with your audience. People connect to what they understand, can relate to, or like.
- Make sure you share WHY you exist. And please don’t say $$$… Your potential customers want to be part of something bigger.
- Invite your audience to become part of your story by enjoying your products. The best brands leave customers feeling great each time they use the product, because they feel connected to your greater purpose.
Are you ready to get started? Remember, authenticity and connection make your brand shine!
